1、Move the patient with bare hands for a short distance

If the patient is moved unassisted for a short distance, the correct posture needs to be used.

Regardless of the method and posture, please be sure to ensure that the head, shoulders and hips three points of synchronized movement, so that the spine can be relatively stationary.

2、Long-distance non-handed moving, need to find or make moving tools

Patients with spinal injuries should preferably be fixed with a vacuum stretcher, or a rigid stretcher (e.g., plate stretcher).

3、Fixing the injured patient to the lifting tool

Moving the patient to the lifting tool should be done slowly. The patient should be secured in a safe and comfortable position on the stretcher, or other suitable load-bearing device. The cervical spine should always be protected, depending on the situation.

How to safely move the patient to the load bearing device?

(1) If you want to turn the injured patient, you should try to make the arm find the pivot point and keep the head, neck and body of the injured patient in a straight position when turning.

(2) The rescuers also need to coordinate with each other, and must communicate by word of mouth to keep the movement consistent to turn the patient.

(3) The rescuer controlling the head should direct the movement of the injured or ill person, and they should use a clear and simple command: "Prepare to lift .... Lift."

(4) The patient should be carried in one piece, still keeping the head, neck, and torso in a straight line.

Supine posture: place the patient supine in the position of the center straight line of the carrying device, fix the head, neck, chest, waist, abdomen and pelvis one by one to ensure a straight spine position and avoid bending or twisting of the spine.

Lateral position: Consider fixation in the lateral position to manage the airway and keep the injured patient comfortable.

Caution:

1、Non-medical personnel should not use a rigid neck brace in field handling; if used improperly, it will not only not effectively stabilize the spine, but will aggravate the injury.

2、Use plenty of soft padding under and around the injured person, and also put soft padding under the knees, hips, heels and the back of the head.

3、Start to carry

Patients with spinal injuries must pay close attention to the patient's body position, such as the conditions as far as possible, do not use violence to pull and drag, do not send one person back, or double back and forth lifting, so that the spine bending, twisting, aggravating the chances of injury to the spine increased.

In accordance with the above-mentioned method to fix the patient to the stretcher, when transporting, pay attention to slow and steady progress, do not shake too much, to avoid secondary injuries caused during transport.
